8,600 health care providers and community workers in Côte d’Ivoire have been terminated as an impact of U.S. funding suspension.
Date: 5/25
Region: Africa
Country: Côte d’Ivoire
Topic: Health
Policy Lens: Global Health Security
Entry Type: Human Impact
Additional Context: The original U.S. humanitarian waiver allowed the continuation of lifesaving treatment including CDC-led activities. This resulted in the resumption and continuation of the provision of antiretroviral treatment (ART) and prevention of vertical transmission of HIV. That being said, activities for key populations, HIV-prevention, human rights, and community-led monitoring (CLM) remain terminated. UNAIDS also reports that contracts providing support to national civil society organizations have been terminated.
