A Burundian refugee living in the Kakuma camp said of cuts to food rations: “Many rely entirely on these rations for their daily meals, and the cuts have led to increased hunger and malnutrition. Without sufficient food, the overall well-being of the community is deteriorating. The situation is critical."

Additional Context: The World Food Programme announced a reduction in food rations, following a termination of its contracts with the U.S. Agency for International Development in March 2025. Since then, the situation has continued to deteriorate for many of those reliant on these rations including documented cases of starvation. There were protests in Kakuma refugee camp in March and August 2025, leading to at least one death.
