A former Afghan aid worker supporting programs for women and children in Parwan province stated: “We were working in health sectors for pregnant and nursing women, in counseling, and in the distribution of nutritional supplies for malnourished children, including polio vaccination activities, and we became unemployed in the month of Dalwa,” the aid worker said, referring to the eleventh month of the Afghan solar calendar, which falls during winter. “More importantly, those who were dependent on these lifesaving services are now unable to access essential services.” She was the main breadwinner for her family. Fourteen other women working alongside her were also let go, and now do not know how to provide for their families.
