A producer of ready-to-use therapeutic foods, or RUTFs, formed new partnerships following U.S. aid program terminations and freezes in order to coordinate among airlines, NGOs, and others to ensure its products reached children in Gaza.

Country: Palestine

Topic: Food & Farming

Policy Lens: Moral Leadership

Entry Type: Secondary Effect

Additional Context: A Rhode Island maker of a lifesaving paste for malnourished children was forced to innovate to ensure products reach children who need them while contracts stalled, reports Tania Karas from a Devex event on the sidelines of the 80th U.N. General Assembly.

Edesia worked with these new partners to ship RUTFs free of charge via United Airlines and Airlink. Once these products arrive in Israel, the Israeli NGO IsraAID transfers the products into Gaza where they are distributed by local NGOs. This coordination was required after U.S. aid stalled contracts for production and delivery of RUTFs.
