Additional Context: This information comes from analysis of a leaked memo from March 2025 that shows USAID award terminations. While the memo includes award descriptions that are sometimes incomplete, the analysis assessed awards that explicitly mention disaster risk reduction in the description as either the full scope or part. According to the analysis, 65 awards were solely working on disaster risk reduction, of which 61 were terminated (93.8%). There were 31 awards that described mixed activities including disaster risk reduction, of which 27 were canceled (87%). Combined, 88 out of 96 awards were terminated (91.7%).

Devex Researcher Note: Because the memo does not include full program descriptions, the number of programs that include disaster risk reduction as a key component is likely higher. Further, large World Food Programme awards were not terminated, leaving about $191.5 million active out of $456.4 in total obligations, or about 42%.
