Due to U.S. funding cuts, mental health and financial support programming for many refugees in Kenya has stopped. A 15 year-old refugee child from Rwanda with a serious chronic medical condition and her single mother lost this support when the program serving them was terminated. They now face risk of eviction, exploitation, and abuse. They face severe deterioration of their mental health as they noted feelings of abandonment.

The report is based on field interviews conducted by Refugees International in Kenya in February and March 2025. Refugees International interviewed refugees, leaders of refugee-led organizations, World Bank officials, UN representatives, representatives from humanitarian agencies, Kenyan authorities, and experts in refugee law, livelihoods, and urbanization in Nairobi and Mombasa.
