Additional Context: The press release from the USDA mentions the intention of delivering up to $452 million in fiscal year 2025 Food for Peace assistance to the World Food Programme. According to the press release, the funding will help U.S. producers move American-grown food to people in need around the world, sending nearly 211,000 tons of U.S. agricultural goods to people in need in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Haiti, Kenya, and Rwanda.

Devex Researcher Note: Food for Peace is the premier emergency food assistance program for the U.S. government. It generally operates by purchasing U.S. commodities and supplying them to food insecure contexts around the world. As The Aid Report noted previously, Food for Peace also has an annual portion of funds set aside for development activities to build resilience. These programs were closed en masse in early 2025, with the few remaining programs winding down by October 2026.
