Entry Type: Operational Impact
Additional Context: According to Think Global Health, USAID cuts forced TB Mukt Vahini, the community-led organization, to reduce their staff from 800 to less than five. This has impacted the organization's ability to do outreach in remote villages and monitor treatment adherence. This organization was being supported under USAID's Challenge Facility for Civil Society and the Tuberculosis Implementation Framework Agreement, which helped fill gaps at the grassroots level which the Indian government could not sustain. Several agreements expired in April 2025.
Devex Researcher Note: Bihar has the third largest incidence of TB cases in India, and is the poorest state in the country.
