Date: 6/26
Region: Latin America & Caribbean
Country: Ecuador
Topic: Governance & Rights, Peacebuilding & Stabilization
Policy Lens: Democracy & Governance
Entry Type: Operational Impact
Additional Context: This information comes from the Internews report, "Crisis in Journalism: The Impact of the U.S. Government Funding Cuts on Global Media" published in June 2025. The research was led by Internews Europe in close collaboration with three consortia of media development organizations brought together under the European Commission’s Thematic Framework Partnership Agreement for Human Rights and Democracy. The researchers gathered information through direct interviews and surveys with frontline media partners.
Devex Researcher Note: According to Fundamedios' website, the organization implemented five programs in 2025 compared to 13 programs in 2024. Though only implementing one USAID program as a prime grantee, Fundamedios notes other funders including ICNL, IFEX, and Palladium, which may imply former sub-grantee status on now terminated USAID-funded projects. The organization still implemented a U.S. Department of State activity in 2025.
