In the provinces of Parwan and Kapisa in Afghanistan, hundreds of professional employees, teachers, healthcare workers, and social activists have lost their jobs and are now unemployed. Communities are facing dramatic reductions in access to health services and counseling for mothers and children, disruption of children’s educational programs and social support, diminished community capacity to respond to urgent crises such as disease outbreaks, malnutrition, and domestic violence, and increased feelings of despair and public distrust in development programs.
