Policy Lens: Security & Resilience
Additional Context: The Partnership for the Development of the Eastern Congo (P-DEC) program aimed to strengthen the foundations for durable peace in North Kivu and Ituri by promoting conflict resolution, economic development, and environmental conservation. In particular, the program supported efforts to make small-scale mining safer and more transparent; stopping such programming undid years of progress, putting youth at much greater risk of unsafe working environments and exposing mining communities to potentially harmful environmental impacts. The program was terminated.
