The termination of Uganda’s Local Health Systems Activity leaves millions of households without a reliable community health contact, delaying care for children and pregnant women and weakening early disease surveillance systems.

Additional Context: This USAID project in Uganda was set to support the Ministry of Health to update its Human Resources for Health strategy, digitize attendance tracking, and fill vacant district-level posts. The Activity also aimed to operationalize the National Community Health Strategy, scaling trained community health extension workers and community-based insurance. By linking regional referral hospitals through a new hub-and-spoke model, the project was also improving epidemic preparedness. Without it, Uganda’s capacity to detect and contain outbreaks like cholera, Ebola, or flood-related diseases is diminished.
