Three major international nongovernmental organizations working with migrant returnees in Honduras told researchers they would need to cease operations in country over the summer of 2025. One has confirmed closure.

Additional Context: Due to the U.S. foreign assistance cuts, including terminated programs working with returned migrants, major international organizations have lost the ability to continue operations in Honduras. HIAS confirmed that it ceased operations in the country due to these cuts. The other two organizations preferred to remain anonymous, according to the authors of this report.

This Women's Refugee Commission's report analyzes the effects of U.S. foreign assistance cuts, gender-based violence programming, and migration in Honduras. The authors conducted a desk review of secondary sources, and conducted fieldwork in Honduras between April and May 2025. A total of 25 interviews were conducted with representatives from organizations working on gender-based violence and migration issues across the country.
